Powell Library, UCLA

Powell Library is one of the great buildings on the UCLA campus.  It looks much older than it is.  The campus opened in 1919, so although Powell Library looks very old and historic, architecturally, it is still very young.  They did a great job designing it.  Believe it or not, Powell Library is more beautiful on the inside than it is on the outside.

Creek Near Wasilla, Alaska

On the drive back from Wasilla to Anchorage we noticed this little creek.  It was so peaceful and beautiful that we had to pull over to take a couple of photos.  What a wonderful place to experience the beauty of creation:

Yosemite National Park

My favorite two places on earth are Yosemite and Yellowstone.  We hit Yosemite this summer also.  We were there on Memorial Day and it was super busy, but this shot of Half Dome and the Merced River help put things into perspective.  Praise God for places like Yosemite.  One of my favorite shots:

Sequoia National Park

We visited Sequoia National Park last summer during our two weeks back home in California.  The Sequoia Trees are the largest living things on earth.  Here is a picture of the General Sherman Tree in Sequoia National Park.  It is a magnificent place to be.

ULCA's Royce Hall

I took this shot of UCLA's famous Royce Hall last summer when we scheduled a college visit there for our daughter.  I am a UCLA graduate and I remember it having a nice campus, but not as photogenic as it appears now.  Here is the picture of Royce Hall I took last summer:

Portage Lake, Alaska in HDR

Alaska has so many great scenes to photograph.  This photo was taken on June 1, 2009 on our last visit to Portage Lake between Anchorage and Whittier.  The weather was cold, but not quite as cold as you would think from looking at this photo.  I think it was around 30 degrees.  Portage Lake is a beautiful place with a nice, warm visitor's center!

The Whittier, Alaska, Marina in HDR Photography

I have been doing some experimenting lately with High Dynamic Range, or HDR, Photography. According to Trey Radcliff on his wonderful Stuck In Customs HDR Photography Blog, HDR "is a post-processing task of taking either one image or a series of images, combining them, and adjusting the contrast ratios to do things that are virtually impossible with a single aperture and shutter speed. Here is my latest HDR photo project, the Marina at Whittier, Alaska. You can see more HDR photos on my Flickr Photostream.

Blogging Again

I have decided to start blogging again. I have been very busy with VerticalGeo and haven't had much time to chronicle what has been going on. I am making a new commitment to post here a couple of times per week. I want to use this blog as my venue for sharing the direction of VerticalGeo and the many things going on. I have also been busy learning a few photography techniques that I will post occasionally.
